Seminar Cruise FAQ
What is a seminar cruise?
A cruise on which an education sponsor runs scheduled sessions for attendees, usually on sea days and mornings, while everyone otherwise enjoys the voyage as regular passengers.
Do I have to book the cruise through the seminar sponsor?
It depends on the sponsor. Some require you to book through a designated agency to be counted in their group; others let you book with any advisor. Ask before you book.
Can a spouse or friend come along?
Yes, usually. Companions share your cabin, pay the cruise fare and typically skip the seminar fee.
Will I get internet access for course materials?
Most ships sell Wi-Fi packages, but speed and coverage vary at sea. Download materials before you board.
What if I am seasick on a session day?
Choose a mid-ship, lower-deck cabin if you are prone to motion sickness, and speak to the ship’s medical center if you need help. Ask the sponsor how missed hours are handled.
When do I receive my certificate?
Some sponsors hand them out on the last day; others email them after the evaluation is completed. Ask at registration.
What happens if the ship skips a port?
Cruise lines can change itineraries for weather or operational reasons. Sessions are usually rearranged around the new schedule.
Should I buy travel insurance?
We recommend it. A seminar cruise has two non-refundable pieces after their deadlines. Our sister site Cruise & Travel Insurance explains what policies cover.
Is a seminar cruise tax-deductible?
Special IRS limits apply to meetings on cruise ships. Read our tax caution page and consult a tax professional; we do not give tax advice.
Can I extend my trip before or after?
Yes. Many attendees add a hotel night or two in the port city. Your advisor can arrange it along with the cruise.
