Formats You Will See

- Lecture series — a presenter or panel across several mornings.
- Case-based workshops — smaller groups working through real scenarios.
- Hands-on skills sessions — limited on ships by space and equipment, so ask what is realistic.
- Hybrid programs — some hours aboard, some completed online before or after the cruise.
Presenting on a Cruise
If you are invited to teach, clarify in writing what the sponsor provides: your cabin, any companion fare, travel, honorarium and audio-visual support. Bring your presentation on two devices, plan for limited internet at sea, and allow extra time for setting up the room. Presenters are often the most relaxed people aboard by the last sea day.
Topic and Program Questions
Are there seminar cruises for non-licensed professionals?
Yes. Business, leadership, writing, photography and technology programs run at sea too. They may not carry formal credits, but the format is the same.
Can my association run its own seminar on a cruise?
Often, yes. Associations and companies set up a group block and reserve meeting space. An accredited provider must still approve the content if you want it to carry formal credit.
Mixing Professions on One Sailing
Several sponsors may run programs on the same ship on the same dates, and interdisciplinary courses — for example, practice management or ethics programs open to more than one profession — are common. That can work well for couples who are both licensed: each attends the program relevant to their own board, and they meet for lunch. Check that each program’s accreditation fits each traveler’s license before booking, and ask whether sessions overlap with port arrivals you both want to enjoy.
Associations sometimes prefer to keep the room to their own members for confidentiality or networking. If that matters to you, ask whether the program is closed or open to the public.
